Bonnie J. Hileman, DVM, Practice Owner
My family moved to Monrovia in 1968 and I still live in Frederick
County, but most of my family currently resides in Florida. I graduated
summa cum laude from Loyola College, Baltimore in 1984 with a BS in
biology. I graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine in 1988 and am a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary
Honor Society.
I knew in eighth grade that I wanted to be a veterinarian and have
loved every minute of my career. My favorite part of veterinary
medicine is being able to tell someone who thinks they are going to
lose their friend that we can help them and they shouldn't have to lose
their friend now. The hardest part is helping someone say goodbye to
the pet they love, especially since that pet has often touched my
heart. I have a special interest in managing the multiple problems that
affect an older pet's quality of life. We are especially dedicated to
working very hard to diagnose, treat, and manage urinary problems in
our patients. Since many of the animals that end up with a rescue group
were given up because of a urinary problem, we don't want our clients
to feel they have no option for dealing with their pet's urinary
problem except to give him up.
After losing Scamper (just shy of her 20th birthday) on January 28,
2004, I adopted Poppet from Friends of Montgomery County Animals in
April. Poppet comes to work with me most days but has discovered she
can't take Humphrey's place. Although I don't currently own a horse, I
still enjoy horseback riding and am fortunate to have friends whose
horses I can ride. I also enjoy reading, cross-stitching, crocheting,
and gardening.

Thomas Easley, DVM --
I
graduated from Washington State University's School of Veterinary
Medicine in 1988. From 1988 to 1991, I worked as a private
practitioner in Washington and Oregon performing the majority of my
duties on horses and cattle.
In
1991, I joined the US Army 5th Special Forces Group and spent the next
5 years in East Africa and the Middle East training the indigenous
population in an effort to improve their livestock industry (cattle,
sheep, goats, camels) in addition to their health and wellness.
Some of the training included aseptic slaughter techniques in order to
decrease food born illness, proper water sanitation, basic livestock
husbandry and vaccination protocols, and "first-line" disease
prevention and treatment.
In 1996, I discontinued my service in the US Army and moved to Panama
City, Panama where I worked for the US Air Force (as a civilian)
directing and managing Public Health issues and all Health and Wellness
activities for about 2 years.
I then moved to Lawton, Oklahoma where I worked as a small animal
practitioner, performing medicine, surgery, and dentistry on
exclusively dogs and cats until June of 2004, at which time I made my
move to the New Jersey shore where I continued the same type of
practice until my move recent move to Gaithersburg in January 2006. |

Susie Jarquin, Veterinary Nurse
Hi
my name is Susie. I have been a veterinary nurse at the practice since
March 2005. I grew up in Nicaragua located in Central America; my
family owns a ranch in Nicaragua which is the home to all types of
animals; horses, pigs, chickens, roosters, cows, bunnies, parrots,
dogs, and a deer named Bambi. I've grown up always having a BIG HEART
for animals, and working here I've realized I can't be happy without
them! I enjoy every moment I spend at the clinic; it's a truly
fullfilling experience being able to come to work everyday with the
goal being in providing compassionate aid and comfort to my favorite
loving companions, the animals. I own a sweet little dachshund named
Lucy-I brought her back with me from Nicaragua, and am expecting to
adopt more pets to add to my furry family. I am taking human nursing
courses at montgomery college, and am expecting to continue my nursing
education in order to recieve my B.S.N. It's my dream to build my
career upon the fact that I am making a positive difference in the
lives of mankind. On my spare time I volunteer at local hospitals, and
enjoy my time with family and friends. I look forward in sharing all
the valuable knowledge I've come to learn at GVC with our clients; my
biggest priority is keeping our furry companions healthy and very
happy! |

Christine, Veterinary Nurse
Hello, my name is Christine; I started working here in January 2006. I
have an Associates Degree in Psychology and I'm a member of PSI Beta
National Honor Society for Psychology Students. Although that was my
college curriculum, I decided to begin my career working with animals
after realizing that no job could ever suit me unless it involved
helping my fuzzy companions. Recently, May 2007, I enrolled in Penn
Foster College's Veterinarian Technician Certification/Licensure
program. So, in about a year to a year and a half I will be a licensed
Veterinary Technician! I am so excited for this and look forward to
becoming more confident in sharing my Knowledge with all of you on the
wellness of your pets.
Animals
hold the deepest passion in my life. I have always owned animals and by
"animals" I mean almost every kind; cats, dogs, goats, chickens,
horses, cows, emu, hamsters, guinea pigs, snakes, parrots, fish, and
rabbits. While living on my childhood farm I participated in 4-H and
learned most of what I know today about animals. In my spare time I
like to exercise, ski, surf, and hike (anything outdoors). Of course, I
also love spoiling my babies: Lexy, my Dachshund; Bailey, Jake, and
Sydney my three cats and all of my family members pets too.
I am so excited to get to know so many more animals and work with you
to keep them healthy so we can have their company for many years to
come! |

Carrie, Veterinary Nurse
My
name is Carrie and I started working here at Gaithersburg Veterinary
Clinic in October of 2005. I attended Salisbury University from fall
of 2001 until the spring of 2004. While there I had various jobs
working with people, from working with the University Police on campus
to bartending in Ocean City. I came home in 2005 and started attending
classes at Montgomery College with the intentions of earning my Biology
degree and attending University of Shady Grove by next fall.
My dream is to work at a Big Cat Refuge or the National Zoo once I've
earned my degree. Gaithersburg Veterinary Clinic is a great
opportunity to work with animals and their owners while I continue to
earn my degree.
Until the big cats I enjoy being at home with my cat Shadow and my
Yorkie puppy Sassie. I also enjoy taking lots of photographs,
scrap-booking, and spending time with my friends and family. |

Allyson, Receptionist
I'm new to GVC and Montgomery County, but not to Maryland. I was born
in Baltimore and grew up in Howard County. As a child, I was totally
nuts about animals in general and somehow talked my parents into
keeping a succession of pets including, fish, a gerbil, a rabbit, a
bird, and several dogs. I also brought home various "critters" such as
snakes, insects and frogs, but my mom and grandmother wouldn't let me
keep those in the house. In school, I had a strong interest in the
sciences, eventually earning a B.S. in Nutrition Science and an M.S. in
Biological Sciences at Drexel University. During this time, I lived in
Philadelphia, PA and met my husband, Ian. When we got married, my
husband and I moved into a "student" apartment that just happened to
come with a kitten. Since other apartments in the area came with mice,
the kitten was a welcome addition to the family. I ended up becoming a
dedicated "cat" person. We've had cats ever since.
Besides, the cats, we also have two children and stayed at home to
raise them for a number of years. When my kids were small, I
volunteered at their schools and in the community. In particular, I
tried to volunteer in ways that would let me use my science skills.
I've been able to talk to kids about insects, nature, art and origami,
among other things.
Coming to GVC has been a great choice for me. I'm learning about
animals in a new way. I really enjoy interacting with the other GVC
staff and our clients. |
